Rod holds a degree in Business Administration together with a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Marketing from the renowned Kellogg School of Management in Chicago, USA. He has extensive product marketing, technical and sales knowledge that is coupled with creative ideas for product and online applications.
After a career in electronics in the Royal Navy, Rod successfully progressed through a number of market development roles for web technology companies based in the US and Canada.
Returning to the UK, Rod established Shoothill Ltd in 2006 to exploit new web-based mapping and visualisation techniques which were then just emerging (e.g. Google / Bing Maps, Cloud Computing etc). Initial products included “Home Navigator” which was a property portal for land and estate agencies using a database property search linked to a global web mapping solution. Rod has since successfully expanded Shoothill’s presence and developed many innovative product streams including deep zoom, Photosynth, mobile app development, large scale marketing campaigns and bespoke web-based development and graphic design.
In 2012, Shoothill launched Flood Alerts (www.FloodAlerts.com ) on Facebook, the UK’s first live flood warning web-based map system which won the 2012 Guardian Innovation Awards. In 2014 the company released GaugeMap (www.gaugemap.co.uk) the world first online river gauge map with 3000 gauges linked to their own individual Twitter accounts, an Internet of Things world first. GaugeMap went on to be the winner of the inaugural Open Data Institute Award for Innovation in 2014.
