As I’m sure you all know by now, ShropGeek is so much more than just a monthly social. Over the years we’ve done all sorts of different types of events and as long as there is demand for them, we will continue to do so. However, very few things in life are genuinely free.

Myself, Pete White and everybody else that gets involved with organising events for ShropGeek all donate our time to do so, but there are still always overheads. And thats where we need your help…

There are many ways to get involved with ShropGeek but what we specifically need at the moment is some regular sponsorship for our Rebellion Meetups.

If you are unaware of our Rebellion Meetups, these are evenings of talks which we hold approximately once every 3 months upstairs at The Alb in Shrewsbury. These evenings are free to attend, regularly attract between 30-40 people and cover a wide range of topics from marketing, to photography, to web design, to social media, to backend web development, to colour theory, to blogging, to Internet of Things (IoT), to icon design, to letterpress printing and so much more.

Thats me that is.

We consider these to be equally as important as our big conference and regularly invite speakers in to the county to talk at the events, some of people that we’ve invited in the past include Keir Whitaker, Syd Lawrence, Jessica Rose, Steve Leighton, and Joel Hughes. It also gives people more local to Shropshire the chance to practice and become confidant at public speaking in front of, what I consider to be, one of the friendliest and most encouraging communities in the tech industry (something that I’ve personally benefitted from).

Ideally we are looking for two companies that would be willing to commit to sponsoring these events for £400 each, for the duration of one year. As I said, we do only run these once every 2 – 3 months with a slight gap in the summer months and no more than 4 a year, so that is only £100 per meetup each.

This would give us the breathing space we need to be able to invite speakers from further afield and pay both travel and accommodation costs for them, occasionally get a photographer in to take some photos for us to use in our marketing, pay for some food on the night and if there is any money left over have a small bar tab as well.

What we give you in return (apart from our love and adoration forever) is:

• Sponsorship billing on each event page with a link back to your own website.
• Logos on screen and thank you’s on the night.
• 5 minutes at any of the Rebellion Meetups you sponsor to talk directly to the audience (especially useful if you are looking to recruit or have a new product or service you would like to shout about).
• Listing on our “Friends of ShropGeek” page (coming soon) for the duration of your sponsorship period.

And of course, it goes without saying that we would tweet about you and mention you in our marketing materials too.
